A traditional T1 to the Internet is generally a Full Duplex 1.5 Mbps connection. Unlike ADSL or Cable, a T1 service is symmetrical, giving businesses both 1.5 Mbps Downstream, while at the same time delivering 1.5 Mbps Upstream. Due to the greater Upstream speed, T1 services are often recommended for companies that are deploying Voice over IP. Businesses that host applications for remote users, also require the higher Upstream speed of a T1.

The higher monthly cost of a T1 can be a barrier to many Small and Medium sized organizations. A business ADSL or Cable will be approximately $100 to $200 per month, while T1 services are generally $600 to $1,000. And even though most T1 services come with a Service Level Agreement (SLA), you only get a small reduction in your monthly invoice if there is a disruption in service. There is NO guarantee that any single T1 cannot fail.
